Board of Directors

Gary Boice

Background:

Gary had been a consultant of an international computer firm for 30 years and built up a computer technology company after his retirement. He lived on a farm for twenty-five years and volunteered many hours as boy scout leader for 38 years. Since 2006, he has traveled to Haiti more than 15 times.

Area of Focus:

Gary is the President of the Board of Directors for Tek4Kids. Additionally, he takes the duties of the on-site coordination and puts in his broad technical expertise, including electricity, mechanics, plumbing and much more. He is a member of the construction teams in Jérémie.

Cathy Boice

Background:

Cathy had been working as supervisor and trainer in the neurological medical field for 25 years. Later, she worked as office manager for a growing technology company for over five years. Furthermore, she also volunteered in a school for deaf in Costa Rica and had the position of a assistant boy scout leader for five years. She has participated in several projects in Haiti over the last six years.

Area of Focus:

Cathy is the Vice President of the Board of Directors for Tek4Kids. She is also responsible for outreach, coordination and a facilitator in various fields.

Barbie Gilbert-Osborne

Background:

Barbie holds an Associate’s Degree in architectural technology and had been working as project manager in the architecture field for 6 years. Moreover, she worked as a paralegal/office manager of a legal firm for 5 years. She has 10 years of volunteer experience coaching youth sports.

Area of Focus:

Barbie serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors for Tek4Kids. She has been working as the Tek4Kids office manager for several years, and therefore brings an extensive insight into processes and experience with project partners to the table.

Tek4Kids Team in the United States

Antonia Mudd

Background:

Toni has a BS degree in Health Care Administration from Western Kentucky University; and has worked in multiple healthcare settings for over 30 years. Her area of expertise includes, outreach/recruitment and national account management. Toni was the chairperson for the Sister Parish Committee at the Cathedral of the Assumption from 2006-2013; and has traveled to Haiti seven times. Interests include: biking, cooking, hiking and travel.

Area of Focus:

As the Outreach Director, Toni is responsible for educating and engaging the public on Tek4Kids, the Ambassador Program, Annual Golf Scramble for Haiti held each September and creating awareness of current projects in Haiti.

Cheryl Davis

Background:

Cheryl has served in a variety of positions with a religious, nonprofit organization in Louisville since 1984. She is active in her faith community, serving as a deacon, assisting with their social media presence, and working in ministries with local homeless shelters and with refugees/migrants from sub-Saharan Africa living in Morocco. She has travelled to Morocco 3 times since 2009.

Area of Focus:

As the office manager, Cheryl oversees the overall function of office systems and is the initial point of contact for the public and our staff in Haiti. She assists with planning and coordination, business development strategies, human resources and accounting.

Jessica Roseberry

Background:

Jessica has a Bachelor’s degree in French from the State University of New York at Oneonta and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Louisville. She has worked in the nonprofit sector for 5 years. Jessica also worked as a nanny for 10 years and has a lot of experience working with children with autism. Her areas of expertise include grant writing and fundraising. Jessica will be going to Haiti for the first time in January or 2015.

Area of Focus:

Jessica began working with Tek4Kids in September of 2014. She will be focusing on translations, grant writing, project evaluation, and other development efforts.

 

Tek4Kids Team in Haiti

Allenz Janvier

Background:

My name is Allenz Janvier. I am a 33 years old, single, and don’t yet have any children. I was born in Jeremie but studied Computer Science in Port au Prince at the University of St. Gerard. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and doing research on the Web.

Area of Focus:

After graduating from the four-year program, I became a computer teacher which helped me to become more competent and further develop my skills which, in turn, lead me to a new activity/job in my hometown of Jeremie.

Baba Langder

Background:

Baba left Haiti with his family as a child and grew up around Miami. He returned in 2001 and has worked as a professional translator for medical missions coming to Jérémie since that time. He has mastered English, Creole and French.

Area of Focus:

Baba started working for Tek4Kids as a translator in 2011, and became a lot more involved in the last year. He is negotiating with vendors for us and became our construction supplies “ambassador”, takes care of logistical matters and brings in his cultural expertise. Baba is also member of the construction team.

Franklyn Etienne

Background:

Franklyn has been working on different construction sites in and around Jérémie and through that, got in contact with Tek4Kids and our projects. He showed keen interest in what we are doing and is in the process of undergoing training with Max on the water purification operation.

Area of Focus:

He is a member of the construction team and a trainee on the water filtration systems. He is currently in school part-time, and works with us part-time. Besides to water-related construction, Franklyn also helps with electric like pulling wires and other tasks.

Jean Renol Josselin

Background:

Jean Renol was born in Makorel in community of Abricots, Haiti. He studied Computers and Communication at the Canadian University of Haiti in Port-au-Prince. Since graduation, he has taught in six different schools. Jean Renol loves teaching children and has two young boys of his own.

Area of Focus:

Jean Renol is currently teaching computer theory, Microsoft Office and typing at St Louis High School in Jeremie and is happy to be part of the Tek4Kids computer education staff.

John Davidson Redon

Background:

After beginning his studies in IT in Port au Prince, Haiti, John Davidson completed his degree in IT administration and programming in the Dominican Republic. He is fluent in Creole, French and Spanish and speaks some English.

Area of Focus:

We are glad to have John Davidson as the newest addition to our teaching staff. He is an energetic person who is excited about Tek4Kids and learning new technologies; John Davidson usually arrives early to prepare for his classes. He teaches typing, computer theory and Microsoft Office at St. Louis High School and Brother Paulin School.

Laura Desmangles

Background:

I’m Laura Desmangles I was born in Port au Prince on May 28, 1985. I finished high school in 2005 and then studied to be a receptionist. Since 2007, I have volunteered with NGOs primarily in the field of education. After the earthquake, I went to the Dominican Republic to study Spanish.

Area of Focus:

I returned to Haiti in 2011 and began to work in Customer Service for Digicel. In 2012, I was transferred to Jeremie. As iPad Facilitator at Tek4Kids, I am working with the teachers to develop content, search for age-appropriate Apps, prepare the iPads and support the students during class time.

Max Chaurant

Background:

Max has been a construction worker for several years and completed various Tek4Kids trainings. After a couple of months, we were convinced that he would make a valuable employee and hired him full-time. Even though we don’t speak the same language, Max’s comprehension and willingness to work make him a valuable asset.

Area of Focus:

Max is head of the on-site construction team. Together with Baba, he operates the water purification systems. Along with that, he is working on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Max also coordinates the construction preparations, which helps the team immensely to get projects completed more efficiently.
