    Electricity Is Key to Water Systems at Montfort School

    Electricity is part of the infrastructure Tek4Kids provides in our partner schools. Reliable electricity is essential in order to provide a functioning water purification system. Providing the necessary infrastructure at Montfort School posed a challenge since is located quite a distance from our other partner schools and is difficult to reach due to steep, rough roads.

    Electricity Powers Water Purification at Brother Paulin School

    Electricity was installed in 2012 at Brother Paulin, clearing the way for Tek4Kids to install a water purification system for the students. Tek4Kids installed eight batteries to power the water system, which pumps 1000 gallons of city water each week through the cistern and increases the pressure used to push the water through the cistern.

    Students Are Enjoying Their iPads at Brother Paulin School

    iPads were first introduced at Brother Paulin school in 2014. iPad instructor Laura Desmangles transports the iPads to each school to maximize the number of students who can benefit from them. Currently, two classes per week are being held to serve students in the sixth grade classes at Brother Paulin. The goal of these classes is to familiarize the students with the technology before lessons are taught using the iPads. By introducing the iPads first, students can better focus on the lessons when using them during class.

    Computer Labs are Providing Great Skills for Brother Paulin Students

    Tek4Kids has provided 20 laptops to teach computer classes in three grades at Brother Paulin school which so far has been a success. Desks were built and chairs were provided for the students. We currently teach two computer classes per week.

  • Water Purification System Installed at Montfort School

    Water Purification System Installed at Montfort School

    In 2014, four distribution tanks, three treatment tanks and three water jug fill stations were installed at Montfort School and orphanage providing clean water for more than 189 students in grades one through six as well as three preschool grades. In 2015, drinking fountains were added for the students to use throughout the day as well making it quicker to access the water in between classes. Also in 2015, hand washing stations were added to help stop the spread of bacteria amongst students, creating a healthier and cleaner environment.

    Lights Are on at St. Louis Elementary

    Tek4Kids installed electricity at St. Louis Elementary in 2014. Since installed it has provided reliable electricity that helps to improve the quality of the schools as well as the daily life of the students and teachers in their learning environments. Since having the electricity the school has improved their functionality and the students have better learning experiences. Based on our survey, 90% of teachers and 84% of students said they have seen the effects of having electricity at their schools.

    Water Purifications Systems Are Up and Running at St. Louis Elementary

    In 2014, Tek4Kids installed a water purification system at St. Louis Elementary. Currently there are two distribution tanks and two treatment tanks operating at the elementary school. These tanks provide clean water to more than 200 students, which includes four primary grades and three preschool classes. By providing clean water to the students it allows them to be healthy and well-educated, which means the students miss less school due to waterborne diseases.

    iPad Program Is a Success at St. Louis Elementary School

    Tek4Kids launched the iPad Initiative Program in the fall of 2014, providing St. Louis High School with more than 36 iPads. The elementary students from St. Louis Elementary School travel to the High School once a week to do their studies on the iPads. With the many educational applications, the iPads help the students problem solve and develop fun new ways of learning by providing different applications from 3D Underwater Worlds all the way up to speech recognition software.

    St. Louis High School Students Are Enjoying Their iPad Classes

    St. Louis High school students are enjoying the iPad classes that are being offered to them. Students are using iPads to supplement math, English and biology. Teacher Patrick Juste commented on the biology program, saying, “This program helps the students better explore the organism, virtually and in reality.”

    Computer Classes Improve Education at St. Louis High School

    St. Louis High School students are enjoying the educational benefits of Tek4Kids computer classes, which were added in 2012. In a survey completed in 2015, a large majority of students and teachers believed that the skills taught in the computer classes would make it easier for students to find careers in the future. Computer classes provide students with the opportunity to become proficient in English, typing and Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel.

    Water Purification System Has Made an Impact at St. Louis High School

    Water purification systems were installed in 2012 at St. Louis High School. Since then student health has improved. 90% of teachers reported that the students can concentrate better. Attendance has also increased at the school because of the purified water; students are missing less school due to water-borne diseases and illnesses.

    Electricity is a Necessity at St. Therese Montessori School

    St. Therese Montessori school was the first school that Tek4Kids partnered with in 2011. Providing electricity to the school was a critical part of helping the school become a better learning environment for the students. Prior to the partnership with Tek4Kids, St. Therese did not have electricity, had almost no books for students and no clean water. Students were missing school due to water-borne illnesses and had little interest in learning.
