Tek4Kids welcomed five guests from Haiti for a training session held in Louisville in July. Canadians Joe and Judy Desrocher also attended the training. Tek4Kids iPad facilitator, Laura Desmangles, and Father Luxo, who is responsible for curriculum development at St. Louis High School in Jeremie, joined us for several iPad sessions. Along with our US team, they developed Tek4Kids’ first iBook, which will be used in the upcoming school year in a pilot biology course.
St. Louis High School headmaster Father Ernest and Augustin Pascal, who works with a technical school in Jeremie, brought further expertise to the table. Along with Nancy Hibbard, our educational coordinator in Haiti, the group spent time reflecting on the past year and developing plans for the future. In addition to the pilot class in biology, Tek4Kids intends to expand its computer programs to other schools and introduce open iPad classes at St. John Bosco.
The group visited several local schools, including St. Xavier, Holy Trinity and Mercy Academy, to discuss possibilities for iPad implementation in the classroom and to observe their methods for utilizing this versatile technology. Dr. Young, a member of the Bellarmine University education department, provided invaluable educational training to our group, including classroom management and teaching methods.
